New Suzuki V-Strom 800DE – the most off-road V-Strom ever!
There is no need to elaborate on the success and popularity of the V-Strom family. Just go to any popular place among motorcycle tourists on the weekend to see at least a few units. For a long time, there has been information that Suzuki, like many other manufacturers, will be moving away from the V-engines that power the 650 and 1000 models. And here is the first confirmation of this information - the V-Strom 800DE, debuting today. The heart of the motorcycle is a two-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 776 cc and a power of 84 HP, designed from scratch. It has been equipped with the unique Suzuki Cross Balancer system, which balances the work and reduces vibrations. It is based on two shafts, the counterweights of which are directed perpendicularly to the crankshaft. This solution not only improves the smoothness of the drive unit, but also allows its dimensions to be reduced.
A crankshaft with crank throws every 270 degrees has also been used, to console fans of the characteristics of the previous "forks". The chassis of the new V-Strom 800DE is just as important as the drive, with parameters indicating its much more off-road character than its predecessors. The motorcycle received a new, rigid steel frame and an aluminum swingarm with a unique shape and high vertical, transverse and torsional stiffness. The spoked wheels have diameters of 21 and 17 inches and are factory-fitted with dual Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour tires. The suspension parameters are a pleasant surprise. At the front, there is an inverted, fully adjustable Showa fork, the same manufacturer provided a central shock absorber with compression and rebound adjustment.
The stroke of both hinges, as well as the ground clearance of the motorcycle, is 220 mm. The seat is placed moderately high for this class of motorcycles - at a height of 855 mm. Two front, floating discs with a diameter of 310 mm and a 260-millimeter disc at the rear are responsible for stopping the machine. The ABS system in the rear wheel can be switched off to make it easier to control the motorcycle when braking on unpaved surfaces. The motorcycle is equipped with a 20-litre fuel tank and as standard with a radiator cover and luggage rack.
We also have a rich electronics package here. On board the new V-Strom 800DE we will find variable SDMS riding modes, Suzuki traction control system (STSC) with G (Gravel) mode, Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle system, Suzuki Easy Start, start assistant and - attention! - a quickshifter working up and down. The cockpit has a 5-inch, color TFT display and a USB port. All the motorcycle lighting is LED technology. The new V-Strom 800DE will be available in three colors: Champion Yellow no. 2 (YU1), Glass Mat Mechanical Grey (QT7) and Glass Sparkle Black (YVB). It will appear in Suzuki showrooms in spring 2023. The price of the machine is PLN 54,900.
It seems that Suzuki intends to steal some customers from Yamaha, because the new V-Strom follows the path of the very popular Tenere 700 model, although it is significantly heavier - when fueled it weighs 230 kg. It will also compete with the new Honda Transalp, which we expect to premiere at the same fair. One thing is for sure - spring in the adventure segment promises to be extremely interesting!
